Anyone who has ever experienced a layover at the Pittsburgh International Airport has discovered what locals have known for years: PIT isn’t just an airport; it’s also a place for shopping and dining while waiting to board a plane and a site to have a casual cocktail while waiting on arriving flights. Waited dining services tend to cater toward the palates of Pittsburgh with a Quaker Steak & Lube serving up fiery orders of wings and Burgh Sportz Bar cashing in on the region’s passion for Penguins, Pirates and pro-footballers, the Pittsburgh Steelers.  The most recent addition to the seated dining experience at PIT, however, comes to the area from an unlikely rival city – one that claims to be the “Rock and Roll Capital of the World.” Created by Cleveland born Iron Chef – Michael Symon – Bar Symon brings an adventurous dining experience to the travelers of the Steel City and – as noted by Hal B. Klein of the Pittsburgh City Paper – “serious connoisseurs alike.” The appetizer menu pushes the boundaries of typical airport food: roasted bone marrow, duck confit sliders, pork belly croutons, but the entrees tend to rely more on regional / traditional tastes: fried chicken, grilled trout, smoked pork butt, steak and grilled meatloaf. Symon’s approach to food is decidedly “meat-centric,” but there are several salads on the menu for vegetarian patrons. Vegan options could reasonably come from the restaurant’s “bar snacks” and “sides” menu. Also available are ten draft beers and a fully stocked bar. It’s an exciting time to fly in and out of Pittsburgh, and Bar Symon brings a touch of the high-life (without the pretension) to frequent flyers of the friendly skies.

Lobos Management has several properties that are just minutes from the Pittsburgh International Airport. Located in nearby Coraopolis, the Foxwood building offers studio and one-bedroom apartments that are perfect for regular travelers or airport area suburbanites. For those with a need for a bit more space, Lobos Management’s Oxford Court houses two bedroom apartments with stunning hardwood floors, a private entrance and lots of lush green space in the front and rear yards. Both of these buildings are minutes from Robinson Town Center and just seconds from the adventurous dining experience at Bar Symon in the Pittsburgh International Airport. As a cultural hub of Western Pennsylvania, Pittsburgh continues to draw some of the most exciting arts and entertainment in the country, and 2014 is already poised to be an outstanding year for live music. American hit maker, Billy Joel, returns to Pittsburgh at the end of February to tickle the ivories and lead a crooning crowd through several choruses of “Piano Man.” The following month continues the celebration of classic American rock music as more than a dozen guitarists grace the stage of the Benedum Center on the “Experience Hendrix” tour. Some of the more notable guitarists being featured in the show are Buddy Guy, Kenny Wayne Shepherd, Eric Johnson and Zakk Wylde (of Ozzy Osbourne and Black Label Society). March also brings one of the hottest tickets of the springtime to the Petersen Events Center as the wildly popular Avett Brothers return to Pittsburgh with supporting group, Old Crow Medicine Show. This will certainly be a hit with the many college students residing in Oakland.

Lobos Management has several properties that are a stone’s throw from the Events Center, offering residents quick access to the busy and bustling streets of Oakland.  Craig Manor, for instance, is just blocks from the University of Pittsburgh and from Carnegie Mellon University making it an ideal apartment building for anyone with regular business in Oakland. Craig Manor is conveniently located and offers easy access to public transportation, shopping, dining and nightlife. Over the last few years, the city of Pittsburgh has quickly started to become a new national hotspot for young and thrifty city dwellers. Since early 2012, Salon.com deemed Pittsburgh “the place to be,” National Geographic voted Pittsburgh as one of the top best places to visit, and the Economist Intelligence Unit identified Pittsburgh as the most livable city in the United States. This treasured status as “most livable” was quite possibly the impetus for using our Rustbelt city as the butt of a jealousy fueled joke in season 4 of the cult television series Arrested Development as not a single city in the state of California made the top twenty list of most livable cities in the entire world.  It is certainly an exciting time in Steel City history – for the first time in decades, the permanent population is swelling with artists, musicians, and others seeking the culture of the city. Nationally touring acts are no longer bypassing Pittsburgh in order to perform in our regional sister city, Cleveland, and there has even been recent talk of bringing the NFL draft to the city in the upcoming years.

As more and more Americans flood into our city of bridges, Lobos Management is here to help new residents secure quality apartments in the city’s most desirable neighborhoods. Montrose Manor on Fifth Avenue, for instance, can offer residents easy access to the restaurants and night life on Highland Avenue, Walnut Street, and Ellsworth Avenue as well as close proximity to Mellon Park, the universities, and the area hospitals. This Shadyside apartment complex is just fifteen minutes from downtown Pittsburgh and features beautifully renovated units with plenty of storage and onsite laundry facilities. With properties located all around the city, Lobos Management is your go-to source for finding the perfect apartment in our country’s most livable city. During its renovation of the Cinderella Building, the team at Lobos Management gained considerable insight into the construction of this circa-1903 architectural gem. Built in the Lawrenceville neighborhood of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, the property offered convenient, stylish housing with modern amenities. Frederick Scheibler, Jr., who worked his way up the ranks from the role of apprentice at a local firm, designed the Cinderella Building shortly after launching his own firm; he later designed more than 150 projects in the area.

At the time of the Cinderella Building’s construction, Pittsburgh served as the backdrop for a booming economy. With good jobs and steady wages as well as the chance for advancement, the city played host to a rising middle class. The people of the expanding middle class yearned for such fashionable features as built-in fixtures, elegant design, electric lighting, and in-house plumbing. Frederick Scheibler proved adept at incorporating such elements into affordable apartments, such as those in the Art Nouveau Cinderella Building that continues to serve Pittsburgh residents today.

Lobos Management oversees numerous apartment communities in Pittsburgh and the surrounding area; many of the company’s properties have been rescued and restored to provide luxury living for its clients as well as revitalization for their communities. In order to provide its clients with the most up-to-date services, Lobos Management is developing its website to include a greater variety of options for its business interactions. Recently, the company established a new online payment form. This allows tenants to pay their rent at their convenience, using any major credit card, including mileage and rewards cards, and to set up an automatic monthly payment system, thereby avoiding any late fees. The process requires only that clients register through the site, which also includes live support to help resolve any issues. Moreover, the company plans to add further online services, such as a submission form for maintenance issues.

About Lobos Management: Located in Pittsburgh, Lobos Management has administered rental properties in western Pennsylvania since its founding in 1973. The company offers both residential and commercial rentals, including college student housing and retail shops, and has also worked with a number of charitable housing organizations, including the YWCA and Hosanna House.

One of the most eclectic and original tourist destinations in the Pittsburgh area is Swissvale’s Trundle Manor, an art house / gallery that offers public tours of their “cabinet of curiosities.” In the words of the curators, “Trundle Manor is a private collection of weird things that has been made available to the public [including] items such as taxidermy, jarred specimens, medical implements, and bizarre weaponry” – clearly not your average museum. In fact, it is very difficult to discern exactly what Trundle Manor is, and that’s precisely how curators Mr. Arm and Velda Von Minx like it. The mystery, it would seem, is actually part of the experience which helps to bring a dynamic and sensory reaction from visitors. The curiosities are not just contained to the art house space, however. Trundle Manor – at its heart – is part of the long American tradition of carnival sideshows. With the recent addition of the Trundle Manor Traveling Creepshow, experiencing a small taste of the gothic and grotesque is no longer just contained to their physical space in Swissvale. This traveling sideshow comes complete with a mobile tent to house the oddities, several performers / members of the manor, and a rotating exhibit of “bizarre beasts and collectibles.” For Pittsburgh residents who are unfamiliar with this fascinating little twist on the museum / art house, it is definitely worth visiting. And it is located just blocks from Frick Park.

Through the park in Squirrel Hill are several Lobos Management properties making access to Trundle Manor as simple as a quick trip on a PAT bus.  Located at 5619 Hobart Street, Hobart Square is a beautifully maintained apartment complex that offers one and two bedroom units, renovated kitchens, and onsite laundry.  Some units in Hobart Square provide access to balconies which overlook the neighborhood and bring fresh air into the building. In addition to its proximity to Trundle Manor, this Lobos Management property also offers quick access to the business district of Squirrel Hill where specialty stores and restaurants dot the blocks of Murray and Forbes. The recent spread of the “gastropub” concept across the culinary landscape of America took root within the Pittsburgh city limits several years ago. Casual high-end dining options like Kevin Sousa’s Salt of the Earth and Richard DeShantz’s Downtown eatery, Meat and Potatoes, have been tantalizing the taste buds of local diners since late 2010 and early 2011 respectively. This trend toward fine dining in a casual pub-type atmosphere has not been restricted to the city limits, however. Within one mile of each other in Robinson Township are two relatively new additions to the airport area cuisine culture: Burgatory and Bocktown Beer & Grill. As an offshoot of its flagship restaurant in Fox Chapel, Burgatory’s Robinson location effortlessly melds gourmet burger creations with its accessible strip mall location, bringing a touch of dining elegance to the suburbs. Heralded for their creative fusion of the classic milkshake with exotic spirits, Burgatory has been satisfying customers with their cocktails since opening the doors in 2012. A feature of the Burgatory menu is the ability to customize all burger creations by utilizing a simple checklist of breads, meats, sauces, rubs, and condiments. Customizing specialty orders is not exclusive to Burgatory, however, as a quick glance at Bocktown Beer & Grill’s menu will reveal an impressive number of toppings for their “Flat Belly Fries,” an area favorite that treats a large portion of hand cut French fries like an order of nachos. Toppings include jalapenos, beer kraut, pickled onions, peppered bacon, ham, beer cheese, beef gravy, bleu cheese dressing, and dozens of others. Interestingly, Bocktown’s “soup of the day” is also listed as an available topping for an order of fries. With countless combinations, an order of French fries at Bocktown can easily turn into a four course meal in and of itself. Another highlight of Bocktown’s menu is the constantly rotating selection of craft beers which their knowledgeable bartenders and servers will happily suggest as the perfect complement to an evening meal.

Lobos Management offers several rental complexes in the Robinson / airport area bringing easy access to gastropub dining without having to travel all the way into the city.  The Bradford apartment building in Corapolis is just minutes from the shopping and entertainment available in Robinson making this an ideal suburban location. Another benefit to this property is its accessibility to the Pittsburgh International Airport, the area’s largest airport and hub for Southwest and Delta airlines. Pittsburgh’s rich history is woven into the streets that cut through each city neighborhood, intersecting the lives and experiences of each generation within a common geography. From East Liberty to Lawrenceville, Aspinwall to Bloomfield, all people from the Steel City share at least two common ties:  an undying dedication to the Black & Gold and a recognition of our own mortality.  Like a giant hub, the Allegheny Cemetery has served as the final resting place for countless city dwellers since the land was first dedicated to memorials in 1845. Buried in this cemetery is Pittsburgh native, Stephen Collins Foster, author of seminal American classics “Oh Susanna,” “Camptown Races,” and “My Old Kentucky Home.” This musical element of the Allegheny Cemetery does not end with Foster, though. Over the years, Lawrenceville locals have utilized the grounds to host music festivals like the Rock All Night Tour (R.A.N.T.) and the annual celebration of Foster’s musical achievements called “Doo Dah Days.” Certainly, this cemetery is not just a site for burial and mourning; it is also an expansive natural environment that caters to the arts and supports local musicianship. Another interesting aspect of the Allegheny Cemetery is that it directly borders several city neighborhoods: Lawrenceville, Garfield, Bloomfield, and Stanton Heights. The vastness of this plot of land literally serves as a juncture between neighborhoods, family histories, and generations of Pittsburghers.

With properties in East Liberty, Shadyside, and Bloomfield, Lobos Management offers several residential living options just blocks from this great unifying memorial site. Edmond Square in Bloomfield is located off of Liberty Avenue, a main throughway that runs parallel to the cemetery’s southernmost entrance point on Penn Avenue. Also available in Bloomfield is a spacious duplex on Winebiddle Street. And just off of the cemetery’s eastern edge is Lobos Management’s North Negley Apartments, a centrally located building that offers easy access to area shopping and dining. Taking a leisurely stroll through the historic Allegheny Cemetery is a great way to spend an afternoon, and with these Lobos Management properties so close, taking in the natural wonder of the cemetery could not be easier or more convenient. As the largest metropolitan area in Western Pennsylvania, the city of Pittsburgh is a cultural center and hometown identifier for residents from all around the region. People from Somerset in the east, Grove City to the north, and Washington to the south can all casually refer to Pittsburgh as home, and that’s an original characteristic in an American city. A “Pittsburgher,” as demonstrated here, does not necessarily refer to one who lives within the city limits, but rather, to an entire geographic region that spans hundreds of miles in circumference. As such, the Steel City has evolved into the focal point for regional culture. With world class museums, arts, and musical performances available in the city, it becomes easy to overlook some of the more specialized cultural offerings. The Phipps Conservatory and Botanical Gardens, for instance, although not heralded as a “must see” attraction for area visitors, is a jewel to the area. The large conservatory features 12,000 square feet of paths that wind through the tropical forests, around waterfalls and fish ponds, and through gardens of exotic plants and flowers. The space regularly features installations from world renowned sculptors and artists whose works are seamlessly built into the landscape of the building’s design. A recent exhibit of work by visionary sculptor Dale Chihuly brought spectators from around the globe to witness the magnificent integration of flora and hand blown glass…truly a once in a lifetime spectacle where art and nature seemed to inspire each other simultaneously. The stunning beauty of the gardens is also an available site for wedding ceremonies, private functions, and elegant business retreats, and it’s all located on the northwestern edge of Schenley Park.

Lobos Management’s London Terrace – located on North Craig Street in Oakland – is just blocks from the spectacular gardens at Phipps. With efficiency and one bedroom apartments available in the large complex, London Terrace offers quick access to the University of Pittsburgh, Carnegie Mellon University, as well as the bustling business and entertainment district in Oakland. Culturally speaking, this small corner of Pittsburgh rivals downtown’s official “Cultural District,” and much of this has to do with the presence of little jewels like the Phipps Botanical Gardens. America’s long history and fascination with birds is easily demonstrated through a quick review of some common idioms: “wild goose chase,” “crazy as a loon,” “proud as a peacock,” “fly like an eagle,” “the early bird gets the worm,” et al. This cultural absorption of birds into our daily use of the English language signals an overwhelming interest in these flying creatures. And with this fascination comes a national venue where guests can fawn over fowl, extol orioles, praise the jays, and celebrate the plate-billed toucan: the National Aviary. Located on Pittsburgh’s North Side in Allegheny Commons West, the National Aviary houses more than six hundred birds from around the world and has been showcasing the unique collection to visitors since 1952. Like the Pittsburgh Zoo, the National Aviary is organized by region / ecosystem with birds that are indigenous to tropical rainforests, wetlands, and grasslands. In addition to these regional markers, though, there are also specialty exhibits where specific birds rule the roost: Penguin Point, Condor Court, and Eagle Hall. During the first full weekend of January 2013, the National Aviary is featuring an exhibit of “Grand Birds of America,” a celebration that involves flamingos, pelicans, owls, and a special feeding demonstration of the great bald eagle. The Aviary also shows bird related films, hosts events for schools, is available for private functions, and hosts regular holiday themed festivities. Having the rare indoor opportunity to gawk at a hawk or ogle an eagle is something that should not be missed. And as a local landmark, the National Aviary is easily accessible to Western Pennsylvanians and bird enthusiasts from the world over.

Just blocks from this treasured bird sanctuary is Lobos Management’s Northe Point apartment building. Located at 3250 Richardson Street on the North Side, the beautiful red brick building features one and two bedroom apartments, recently renovated kitchens, and easy access to onsite laundry facilities. Also just a short distance from this Lobos Management property is the Allegheny Observatory, a state of the art research center dedicated to the exploration of the universe. With so much to offer residents of the North Side, it is no wonder that this neighborhood is a hotspot for culture, dining, and nightlife. And there is no better place to experience life on the North Side than by residing in this prime Lobos Management property. For more information about Lobos Management or any of our other North Side apartments, please visit our website at http://www.lobosmanagement.com or track us down on Facebook at http://www.facebook.com/lobosmanagement.
