Anyone who has ever experienced a layover at the Pittsburgh International Airport has discovered what locals have known for years: PIT isn’t just an airport; it’s also a place for shopping and dining while waiting to board a plane and a site to have a casual cocktail while waiting on arriving flights. Klein of the Pittsburgh City Paper – “serious connoisseurs alike.” The appetizer menu pushes the boundaries of typical airport food: roasted bone marrow, duck confit sliders, pork belly croutons, but the entrees tend to rely more on regional / traditional tastes: fried chicken, grilled trout, smoked pork butt, steak and grilled meatloaf. Symon’s approach to food is decidedly “meat-centric,” but there are several salads on the menu for vegetarian patrons. Vegan options could reasonably come from the restaurant’s “bar snacks” and “sides” menu. Also available are ten draft beers and a fully stocked bar. It’s an exciting time to fly in and out of Pittsburgh, and Bar Symon brings a touch of the high-life (without the pretension) to frequent flyers of the friendly skies.

As a cultural hub of Western Pennsylvania, Pittsburgh continues to draw some of the most exciting arts and entertainment in the country, and 2014 is already poised to be an outstanding year for live music. During its renovation of the Cinderella Building, the team at Lobos Management gained considerable insight into the construction of this circa-1903 architectural gem. Built in the Lawrenceville neighborhood of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, the property offered convenient, stylish housing with modern amenities. Frederick Scheibler, Jr., who worked his way up the ranks from the role of apprentice at a local firm, designed the Cinderella Building shortly after launching his own firm; he later designed more than 150 projects in the area.

The recent spread of the “gastropub” concept across the culinary landscape of America took root within the Pittsburgh city limits several years ago. Casual high-end dining options like Kevin Sousa’s Salt of the Earth and Richard DeShantz’s Downtown eatery, Meat and Potatoes, have been tantalizing the taste buds of local diners since late 2010 and early 2011 respectively. This trend toward fine dining in a casual pub-type atmosphere has not been restricted to the city limits, however. Within one mile of each other in Robinson Township are two relatively new additions to the airport area cuisine culture: Burgatory and Bocktown Beer & Grill. As an offshoot of its flagship restaurant in Fox Chapel, Burgatory’s Robinson location effortlessly melds gourmet burger creations with its accessible strip mall location, bringing a touch of dining elegance to the suburbs. Heralded for their creative fusion of the classic milkshake with exotic spirits, Burgatory has been satisfying customers with their cocktails since opening the doors in 2012. A feature of the Burgatory menu is the ability to customize all burger creations by utilizing a simple checklist of breads, meats, sauces, rubs, and condiments. Customizing specialty orders is not exclusive to Burgatory, however, as a quick glance at Bocktown Beer & Grill’s menu will reveal an impressive number of toppings for their “Flat Belly Fries,” an area favorite that treats a large portion of hand cut French fries like an order of nachos. Toppings include jalapenos, beer kraut, pickled onions, peppered bacon, ham, beer cheese, beef gravy, bleu cheese dressing, and dozens of others. Interestingly, Bocktown’s “soup of the day” is also listed as an available topping for an order of fries. With countless combinations, an order of French fries at Bocktown can easily turn into a four course meal in and of itself. Another highlight of Bocktown’s menu is the constantly rotating selection of craft beers which their knowledgeable bartenders and servers will happily suggest as the perfect complement to an evening meal.
