Neville Island and the Queensbury Apartment Building

Posted on: September 4, 2012

With the confluence of the Allegheny and Monongahela rivers shaping the geography of the Pittsburgh metropolitan area, it is relatively easy to see how the winding and hilly city streets have become a defining characteristic of the area. Often referred to as “the San Francisco of the East,” Pittsburgh’s hills make up many of the city neighborhoods: Polish Hill, the Hill District, Mount Oliver, Troy Hill, et al. The inclines transport residents up the mountainous slopes from Station Square to Mount Washington where lookouts to the best views of the city dot Grandview Avenue. The hilly terrain, though, is not the only geographically significant aspect of the city; there is also an island. Formerly known as Montour’s Island, Neville Island is a sparsely populated landmass in the middle of the Ohio River that serves as home to 84 Lumber Arena, a large sports complex that features several ice hockey rinks, athletic fields, a golf range, and a miniature golf course. The arena is also the official home of the Pittsburgh Curling Club, one of only three curling clubs in the state of Pennsylvania. The five mile long island can be the perfect place to spend an afternoon away from the bustle and hills of city living, and it’s all accessible by simply crossing a bridge.

Just across the river from Neville Island is Lobos Management’s Queensbury apartment building. Located at 220 South Home Avenue in Avalon, the Queensbury building features one and two bedroom apartments with laundry rooms on every floor of the property. With Neville Island within eyeshot of this Lobos Management property, sports enthusiasts, casual skaters, and recreational fishermen could not ask for a better rental location.
