A Fair in the Park – Mellon Park and the Bentley Apartments

Posted on: August 22, 2012

Every fall in Pittsburgh’s Mellon Park is the city’s annual “Fair in the Park,” an event sponsored by The Craftsmen’s Guild of Pittsburgh where vendors, artists, and craft makers display and sell their works to eager collectors. With hundreds of merchant stalls dotting the hills of Mellon Park each September, there is sure to be something that will interest all guests of the fair: paintings, jewelry, handmade wool sweaters, artisanal foods and countless other crafty products. In addition to the arts vendors are several food stalls that serve up the best of Pittsburgh’s specialty sandwiches and snacks. Between the food and shopping, it is easy to spend a long afternoon enjoying the rustic culture of the Fair in the Park. A small stage is also installed onto the grounds for musical performances, short plays, and public addresses that inform park guests of upcoming events at the fair. For the 2012 Fair in the Park, the entertainment for all three days will be Pittsburgh’s own Squonk Opera, a musical dance show that integrates junkyard machinery with creative design and choreography.

Just across from Mellon Park – home to the annual Fair – is Lobos Management’s Bentley apartment building. Located at Fifth Avenue and Emerson Street, less than a block from the entrance to the park, the Bentley provides quick access to all that Mellon Park has to offer: tennis courts, the Phipps Garden Center, the annual Fair. In addition to the close proximity to the park, the Bentley also offers easy access to the high end shopping along Walnut Street in Shadyside, the University of Pittsburgh in Oakland, and Chatham University, located just two blocks from the property.
