Kennywood Park and Lobos Management’s Swissvale Area Properties

Posted on: August 3, 2012

Kennywood Park – located in Pittsburgh suburb, West Mifflin – is an institution in the region, offering rides, food, and entertainment to local thrill seekers since 1898. Generations of Pittsburghers have grown up with the park, effectively establishing Kennywood as an integral part of Southwestern Pennsylvania culture and recreation. Opened originally as a trolley park, Kennywood faced stiff competition during its initial years and even debated closure just four years after opening its doors to the public. In order to offer potential visitors something that other trolley parks could not, Kennywood started installing newer, more exciting rides including the Racer and the Jack Rabbit. In addition to these new rides, the park also held regular dances featuring live music – something that helped ensure visitors even during the Depression and wartime. Now, Kennywood is a first-rate amusement park that houses some of the greatest roller coasters in the East: the Steel Phantom/Phantom’s Revenge, the Exterminator, and the heart-stopping Skyrocket. Debuting in the summer of 2010, the Skyrocket launches riders from 0 to 50 miles per hour in less than three seconds. The most recent attraction installed at the park is the Black Widow, a 90 foot tall pendulum that swings riders back and forth at speeds nearing 70 miles per hour. Aside from the rides, Pittsburghers enjoy visiting the park for its famous concessions: hand cut fries from the Potato Patch, hot sausage sandwiches, and fresh fudge.

Just across the river from the historic park are three of Lobos Management’s properties: Braddock Apartments, Lafayette Square, and the Delaware Apartments. Any amusement park enthusiast knows that getting into Kennywood on a summer day can be challenging; between the traffic, parking, and events at the Waterfront, location can make all the difference between an enjoyable day and a stress filled trek to the park. With these three Lobos Management properties so close to Kennywood, residents can practically smell the funnel cakes and sausages wafting through the air, luring them to another fun-filled afternoon of riding roller coasters and cooling off on the Raging Rapids.
